Daffodils are such a warm, cheerful yellow, Dora, I want them to stay bright too. It’s such a shame when they start to fade. But they make way for other flowers and other colours.

I think in this poem daffodil yellow becomes for me like the moments when we allow the incursions of the divine, God’s presence, into our lives.

Lisa, Isn’t it amazing how it’s after you write a poem that you realize what you’re saying! I think you got there before I did. It’s an entreaty to the divine refreshment that we receive at times, that bright, ineffable “yellow,” to stay, to never depart.

Thanks, Dwight. When I wrote it I hardly knew I was addressing specifically the Holy Spirit, an entreaty to Him to shine always as brightly in us as He shines in those moments when we feel His presence most strongly. The daffodil/yellow became a visual vehicle for that plea.
