Heavenly Father,
I’ve always stood out. Indian child. Small town. No friends really. A lonely thing with a big moon that followed her. I thought about you a lot. Didn’t know you thought about me too. You know the story. You loved me even when I didn’t. I wanted to DO something. Never did. I trained with pretty great chefs, one from Paris. They agreed all I did right was making tomato soup. What could I do? I opened a stand-out “All-Things-Tomato” take-out. Some can pay. Some can’t. I do it for You, Lord. May it be to Your glory.

The best way to do something is to do it for the Lord. Those chefs did help identify the skill in making tomato soup. I am glad that even those who could not pay received soup.

Dale,
Thanks to your photo! I was mind-blown thinking of someone in that ball day after day cooking and serving food. WHY would they do that? And the only satisfying answer for me came in this story. I enjoyed knowing the photo’s provenance. I’m going to put a link to your site for the curious. Thank you.

She found her niche. We’re programmed to think big. The secret is to find our niche, the one thing we excel at. Lovely message. I loved the ‘big moon’ reference.

T.,
You’re so right. It’s a big deal discovering your niche, your particular place in the world, as it were. After all, as Gandalf said to Bilbo: “You’re a very fine person, Mr. Baggins, and I’m quite fond of you. But you are really just a little fellow, in a wide world after all.” Thank you, T.

Dear Dora,
We take what He’s given us and make lemonade, don’t we? Or in her case, tomato soup. Ooh, now I want some. Lovely story.

Ohhhhh, that sounds soooo delish! My stomach is growling… I’d go for some mater soup. Ah, but allergies… .might be worth the dose of benedryl and pepto, though…. So, I’ll eat this burger and dream of mater soup…not the same consistency, though… Maybe if I through it in the blender???? Great story. Many years ago, I had a dream of opening my own business… a bookstore/coffee shop. Someplace where people would gather and enjoy themselves. Ah, but we all have dreams, eh.

I kind of had the idea of “half price books” before it became a huge chain store. Used books, where you could trade, or buy. a corner of the store for sitting, reading and having a cup of joe. Something small and homey.

A very wholesome take on the prompt, Dora. Tomatoes are full of vitamin C so she picked a good fruit to go with.

Thanks for reading, Lisa. Doing good by her customers seems part of her DNA. I remember Dr. Linus Pauling swearing by Vitamin C in the 60’s and being laughed at by his fellow scientists.

Penny,
The writer of Ecclesiastes repeats many times, “hevel, hevel and hevel” in Hebrew, translated vanity or meaningless or, more accurately, vapor, this in relation to life “under the sun.” What can make the transient eternal but doing all in praise and glory to the eternal God? I’m glad she saw that. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments.

At one time in the United States tomatoes were just considered a decorative garden plant and not consumed. The tomato plant is related to Black Nightshade and Poison Ivy! I can handle tomatoes but not the other two plants.
Sometimes the small shops that focus on one thing really do – do it the best 😀

Jules,
Every time I’m reminded they are in the same family, I’m appalled! When I was a kid I used to get a terrible case of poison ivy almost every summer. 😩
