Trade-off

— It looks fabulous!
— What does?
— Isn’t that heaven?
— Those are elevators.
— Can I go on one?
— No. You have to take the stairs. You don’t have a golden pass.
— Why not?
— You can’t afford it.
— But I have money!
— It’s not just money. It’s talking a certain way, shopping at the approved stores, socializing with the proper sort, voting for the prescribed party.
— Well, I’ll do all those things then.
— Okay. But first I have to tape your mouth shut, blindfold you, tie up your legs and lobotomize you.
— And then I’ll get to take the golden elevators?
— Yes.
— Okay.

    1. Mandy,
I’m glad you liked it. It is sad how many compromise unhesitatingly with the world. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and encouraging comments! You’re too kind and very sweet. God bless you, sister. 💖💖💖

  1. Well-written and amusing for me especially the voting for the right one. Literally speaking, even if it is made of the rarest metal/mineral in the world that still so short a climb (for such requirements) to realize there is no difference at all with the ordinary. Similar with the metaphor, ain’t worth it in the perspective in my “domestic.” Blessings to you and your family!

    1. Kent,
Gotta agree with you. It’s mind-boggling the absolutely petty results of such “trade-offs” and still they happen, at a loss. Thank you for those insightful comments. Have a blessed evening and a restful night!

  2. Oh my, I take it, with all the effort, they’re still not allowed to use the golden toilet, too? These people are an evolutionary dead end, but we won’t live long enough to see the results. I’ll take the stairs, thank you.

  3. I find this a very thought-provoking story. There’s no denying the golden elevators are spectacular and it’s easy to see how people are misled. But what is on offer as an alternative? Are you and I doing enough to tell others about God do you suppose?

    1. Penny,
Enough? No. There are immortal souls with whom our paths intersect and far more missed opportunities than I like to think about. But I pray that “the Light shines in the darkness” through us by God’s power, so they may know “the way, the truth and the life” before the trade-off is set in stone. Thank you for your perceptive comments.
